Driving by the Hollywood tour vans this morning I was reminded how many people love to check out the magic of television and movies. The vehicle was full of guests and many even had binoculars ready for a chance to see and celebrity that might cross their path. It looked a lot like bird watching, but with the van it was obvious a slow chase could be possible.
Chasing the stars has become a big business, even for the guided tours. Driving really slow on Sunset Boulevard to check out the restaurants with patios, the tour drivers are hoping to show at least one star during the two hour tour. While it’s rare and depends on the time of day, it is possible. It is the visitor’s elusive dream of meeting a star that the guided tours bank on for customers when they sell tickets and it’s a successful tour when it happens.
While cruising around Hollywood, Beverly Hills and even Los Angeles, the visitors get overloaded with details on the city and facts about the entertainment business are flowing. Whether you see a star or not, the chance to the entertainment bug is totally possible. Seeing all the glamour that comes with success, people get a view of what happens after people become an overnight success.
The guided tours steer clear of areas that showcase actors and actresses who haven’t made it big, but someday those folks will be on the tour too. It is only a matter of time if they keep trying.
