Puzzles At the American Library Association

I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be attending the upcoming American Library Association (ALA) Conference in San Diego at the end of June! This event is a highlight for librarians, authors, publishers, and enthusiasts from all over, and it promises to be an exciting gathering of minds and ideas.

As someone who has dedicated their life to the fascinating world of puzzles, this conference represents not just another event, but a significant step in my ongoing journey promoting the education of puzzles. I believe that libraries around the world could benefit from sharing puzzles with their patrons and I've found there are some amazing ways to implement puzzles for people to enjoy as a resource.

My New Book: Beauty of Puzzles

As with every step forward on my journey, I've dedicated myself to offering new ideas and approaches on how we, the community, could be better engaged with puzzles. That's why I'm so excited about my new book, Beauty of Puzzles.

When I first started working with libraries to consult in puzzle corners and the puzzle areas for library branches, main libraries and other borrowing institutions, I was thrilled to see how patrons young and old, were interested. After seeing how puzzles in libraries for patron use could impact the communities beyond expectations, I decided it was time to share this info so other librarians, supervisors and even coordinators could bring puzzles to their community. This book offers ideas for implementation, how to reflect community interest and ways to immediately impact

An American Library Association Booth Full of Surprises

One of the reasons I'm particularly excited about the ALA Conference this year is that the National Puzzle Day booth will be promoting the unique charm and educational value of puzzles. Puzzles are not just entertainment; they are powerful tools for learning and engagement. At my booth, attendees will have the opportunity to experience firsthand how puzzles can transform the atmosphere of libraries, making them even more inviting and stimulating places. I look forward to sharing my expertise and my book, Beauty of Puzzles which outlines how implementing a puzzle collection can enhance any library’s appeal and utility. Plus. The Big Piece will be on hand to offer a few selfie opportunities.

Speaking Engagement: A Puzzling Approach to Engagement

Another thrilling part of my participation at the ALA Conference is my speaking slot on Sunday. I will be discussing the strategic incorporation of puzzles into library collections and programming. The session will cover various aspects—from selecting puzzles that cater to different age groups and interests to integrating them into community events and learning programs. This talk is designed not only to inspire but also to provide practical strategies that can be implemented by libraries across the country.

A Lifelong Puzzle Journey

Reflecting on my journey, puzzles have always been more than just a hobby; they've been a passion and a profession. From curating puzzle collections to writing about their benefits and speaking at events, each step has been driven by a desire to share the joy and benefits of puzzles with a broader audience. This conference is a continuation of that mission, allowing me to reach out to fellow enthusiasts and professionals who are equally committed to enriching the cultural and educational landscape of their communities.

The Power of Community

Attending the ALA Conference is also about being part of a community. It's a chance to meet with other professionals, exchange ideas, and build relationships that help all of us grow and improve our practices. The conference’s diverse program promises plenty of opportunities for learning and networking, which are invaluable for anyone passionate about the future of libraries.

Looking Ahead

As I prepare for the ALA Conference, my excitement continues to grow. This is more than just an opportunity to speak and present; it’s a platform to learn, share, and connect with others who are just as passionate about their work. Each conversation, session, and workshop is a step forward in my puzzle journey, which I hope will inspire many more to explore how puzzles can bring people together, foster community, and enhance the learning environment in libraries and beyond.

I am eager to see familiar faces and meet new friends in San Diego. This conference is not just another milestone - it's a vital part of my dedication to puzzles and an exciting chapter in my lifelong journey.

Join me as we explore the possibilities and discover new ways to make our libraries more engaging and educational with every piece of the puzzle. I'd love to meet you at the American Library Association Conference, or reach out by any other means you choose.

As I've always said and believe in my heart, Puzzles Bring People Together!
